Thank you to the Hip-Hop Artist/Actor/Author, Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. better know as COMMON, and his Common Ground Foundation for inviting us to the CGF 4th Annual Awards Gala & Fundraiser Masterpiece/Masterpeace this passed weekend.
The Common Ground Foundation, founded by COMMON, supports inner city youth mentorship and leadership programs. It maintains a mission to use creative arts to expose youth to new opportunities. Through social, emotional, and academic initiatives it has made a profound impact on Chicago's youth and continues to do so. CGF's mission was very palpable Saturday night with young artists like vocalist/pianist, Maeya Carter, and violinist Lee England Jr. playing contemporary R&B and Hip-Hop hits.
The gala saw over 200 attendees from Hip-Hop Artist, MC Lyte (see above) to Operation Push's Reverend Jesse Jackson. Actor, Malik Yoba, and ABC-7 News anchor, Cheryl Burton hosted the special evening, while legendary actor, Danny Glover, amongst others were recognized for community activism and philanthropic efforts. A phenomenal night it was indeed.
